Abstract:
The idea of sustainability is encapsulated by the fact that it is not enough to start a programme, an activity or something without thinking of its continuity. This paper, therefore, discussed the issue of sustainability in the Nigerian Secondary Education System. It defined secondary education as that which children receive after primary education and before tertiary education. It is seen as the education for children between the ages of eleven plus/twelve and seventeen plus/eighteen. The paper identified and went further to discuss six sustainable issues which are relevant in the Nigerian Secondary System. These are Access and Equity; Standard and Quality Assurance; Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET); Infrastructure; Funding; Resource Mobilization and Utilization; and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Each of these issues was discussed, problem identified and turn-around activities suggested or identified as having been taken
