However, such cross-cultural contacts are not always without problems. Although intra-cultural communication, at least at face value, seems to be easy to handle, cross cultural encounters tend to be usually fraught with a variety of problems. In the present article, we try to examine the problem of communication failure in interactions taking place between people from different cultural backgrounds. More specifically, we argue that cross-cultural encounters face difficulties because in their interpretation of others’ message, interlocutors rely on their own value system and the representations they have of the self and the other.",
